Napa Valley Unplugged...
Starting today on View From the Bay I’ll be taking you through the backroads of Napa Valley, we’re talking gorgeous wineries in the pristine countryside called Chiles Valley. You can check out my first adventure here. Chiles looks like the Napa Valley of a hundred years ago, without the pretension and exclusivity so evident in the more prominent wineries. If you’re looking to book a weekend trip to these untapped gems, I’ll be giving you all the info you need to know for the next few weeks on the show. Today I start covering a winery called Catacula, a family run place that makes the best Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted—hands down.
"Skinny" Jeans Suck …
I realize that European women have been wearing the new "skinny" jeans trend for over a year now, and unfortunately this fashion foible has hit the Americas with a vengeance. Call ‘em what ya want, skinny, stovepipe, form-fitting jeans. But the bottom line is (no pun intended heh) that they are tapered jeans…TAPERED JEANS people! Let’s call these jeans what they really are, unflattering make-yo-butt-look-big jeans. The only people that can wear this sloppy look and pull it off are pre-pubescent teenagers, or former cocaine addicts like Kate Moss.

So hey, if you are 5’10 and weigh 110 pounds and look elegant in these jeans, great! But this trend does not bode well for the average calorie-conscious woman. Even the most in-shape celebrities can’t pull this look off without looking dumpy and pear shaped. Let’s look at logistics, these pants make the ankles look extra small, the feet look big and the butt, hips and thighs look extra large. Wearing these jeans with new flats add to the dumpy factor. Hence, you have stars like Mischa Barton who weigh 26 pounds, looking like this:

I think this new fashion trend is not only hideous, but dangerous—as women who are already thin may try to get that much thinner to look good in these jeans. To their credit, men seem to buy what looks good on them, following trends in moderation and not being slaves to every fashion whim. Women should follow their example, and instead of fretting about how they are going to wear these jeans again (like many of my friends are doing) just stay true to what looks good on them! Heck, if I had the time I would start a “no tapered jeans for me” parade, throughout the country. I’m 5’9, wear a size 6-8, and refuse to try on a pair—-fashion forward be damned! Call me a fashion renegade instead. Can’t wait to see the high waisted jean return too. Then we can have tapered jeans with high waists again—wonder who will be running to buy those? Blech.
Viva Las Vegas…
Well, I am off to Las Vegas for some sun and insanity, but before I go I'd like to share with you my playlist of get-your-body-moving songs that'll put you in a good mood. Sometimes though a band makes you sit up and take notice, like Coldplay, Green Day, and now, Snow Patrol. Snow Patrol is my new favorite band and I can't get enough of their songs "Chocolate" and "Chasing Cars." Download the rest of these songs and you're good to go at the gym--as you can see I'm a huge fan of remixes. I'll be back with some more adventures soon!
