Meeting Selma Hayek and Orlando Bloom…
at the Gorgeous and Green Party in San Francisco was exhilarating. The party itself was goin on, and you can see the highlights of the party and my celeb interviews
here.
The party was to benefit Global Green USA in their efforts to rebuild a sustainable New Orleans and advance affordable green housing, solar, and high performance schools in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other cities across the country. The party took place in the Bently Reserve building in the financial district—a San Francisco landmark with high ceilings and gloriously tall columns. Pale green light lit the walls which surrounded luxurious couches and ottomans draped in green silk. People were nibbling on organic appetizers and sipping Square One Vodka while a DJ played techno songs, like one of my favs by Ladytron called “Destroy Everything You Touch.” I knew that Salma Hayek and Orlando Bloom were going to make it for sure, but Leonardo DiCaprio wasn’t going to show up—though he is extremely passionate about preserving the environment. I sat in the side lounge with other media peeps when Orlando Bloom walked through the door first.

Fortunately I got the first interview of the night, as I rattled off questions about why he supports Global Green and how he attempts conservation in his everyday life. He was eloquent and actually had good tips and data that he managed to rattle off the top of his head. For example he said that if everyone just did the simple task of unplugging their cell phone chargers, you could save enough energy to do away with an entire power plant. He still wears that low bun in the back of his head and looked very young. He has angelic facial features and a sincerity about him that made him even more appealing in person. Next we eagerly anticipated the arrival of Salma, and she showed up with Mia Maestro, an up and coming actress, by her side.

Her hair was shiny like black silk—she was wearing a black dress that displayed her ample cleavage and enormous rings, that she waved around with her gestures. She is petite, radiant, and curvaceous. When I asked her how she started getting involved in environmental causes, she alluded that there was a process of awareness—from visiting the Arctic circle to realizing that global warming is a real and frightening issue despite denial by many leaders. In general the event was a huge success--global awareness is no longer the realm of tree-huggin, granola chuggin hippies. It’s great that celebrities are getting in the mix.
My surreal toy demo, with Florence Henderson...12/15/06
Especially toys in particular for those special little munchkins in your life, I’ve got some unique ideas for you. I never imagined that I would be doing this toy demo with America’s favorite mom, Florence Henderson, but it was hysterical--especially when she and Spencer Christian started joking about Britany Spears! You can see this surreal toy demo here. Florence was a charmer—she showed up in the green room and greeted the other guests with “Hi, I’m Florence, how are ya’ll doing?” as if they wouldn’t know one of the most recognizable faces on TV.
Happy New Year...
